Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.
Learning and Support at Crookwell High School
The Learning and Support team are here to work collaboratively with KLAs and classroom teachers to support students with additional learning needs. Although our role is fluid and can be adapted to arising needs, our primary roles of are:
- Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate personalised adjustments for learning (ILPs)
- Implement intervention programs for students with additional learning needs - Literacy and Numeracy Intervention; High Potential and Gifted Programs
- Plan, implement and manage Student Snapshots, Behaviour Support Plans and Check-in Cards
- HSC Disability Provisions, Naplan, Check-in Assessments, Minimum Standards
Individual Learning Plans
In order to cater for students with additional needs at Crookwell High School, identified students have an individual learning plan (ILP) created for them.
Plans are created in consultation with the student, their parents, any other relevant stakeholders and CHS staff.
The plans provide information about reading skills, strengths and interests, challenges which impede learning, any special provisions required, wellbeing and safety adjustments and personal and cultural background. Also included on the plan is the information needed for inclusion on the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).
The ILP also includes suggested adjustments. These are divided into three areas of focus:
- Curriculum Adjustments (WHAT you teach)
- Instructional Adjustments (HOW you teach)
- Environmental Adjustments (WHERE you teach)
Small Group Tuition
Our school offers small group tuition in both literacy and numeracy, delivered by trained staff using evidence-based programs such as MacqLit and QuickSmart. These targeted sessions provide personalised support to help students build essential skills and confidence, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to reach their potential.
Student Learning Support Officers
Our School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) provide valuable in-class support, working alongside teachers to assist students with their learning needs. They help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment, ensuring all students receive the guidance and encouragement required to succeed.

regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports

changes to the classrooms:

extra guidance, simpler content or different focus during lessons
-
assessment adjustments:

We know when a student needs help when:
